November 5th 1862
We received marching orders this afternoon to join the Regiment at Manassas Junction and not having an opportunity to send the letter as yet I open it to communicate this additional news. Our men have built very comfortable board huts for themselves in which they could remain for the winter, while around us are the log huts which quartered some 10,000 rebels last winter.
Our men have collected already quite a number of good muskets & rounds, while around large numbers have been rendered useless. They relinquish however all their spoils when the march commences. Stoves chairs, bedsteads, tables will all be left for them who come after us.
